Case of the week: Everyone meet Chloe

Chloe's family enlisted me to help ensure she ages well. She's a healthy girl, but there have been a lot of recurring concerns that had her parents eager for another approach.

She's developing age related hearing loss, has some issues with mild urinary leakage, has a random occasional cough, gets inflamed anal glands, has had some dental issues, can develop travel anxiety, and has a luxating patella (loose kneecap). She doesn't always eat the best and her stool is sometimes soft.

On the outside, she's "fine". Her quality of life is great and she's not sick. Some may say she's just "slowing down" but I know she could be doing even better- and this is where the magic happens.

Initial Exam findings: Pale wet tongue, weak pulses, poor hair quality, tight muscles surrounding the knee and mild arthritis.

Chinese medicine diagnosis: Generalized Qi Deficiency- Qi is the life force of the body and relates to energy levels, organ function, and strength. It's generalized because multiple elements are depleted.

  • Spleen Qi weak: Poor stools, poor appetite

  • Lung Qi weak: Cough

  • Kidney Qi weak: Urinary leakage, arthritis

Also Qi stagnation, bony bi syndrome, and slight damp heat.

What's next?

I see Chloe every 6 weeks for acupuncture and massage for pain and to stimulate her organ function and Qi. She's eating Qi supporting whole foods to help nourish her body. Chinese herbals were added for Qi support and to soothe the Liver.

 Our progress:

Chloe loves her food and her owners love feeding her. Her cough is gone. Her anxiety has improved. We're still battling her skin a bit! And we're making a plan to ensure low stress holiday travel by making sure she's as balanced as she can be.

I love treating this girl. I love her family. And I love treating the WHOLE pet not piecemealing each of her concerns with a separate diagnosis. It's all connected y'all.

Do you have a pet with things that aren't really a problem but could be better?? You need detailed, individualized care not a cookie cutter treatment plan! Reach out to me for more information.
