Kallie is a 14 year old mixed breed dog. Her mom reached out to me for advice to help promote longevity, maintain mobility through her senior years, and investigate some random night time pacing events with no clear trigger.
She's being treated for high blood pressure, mild liver enzyme elevation, low grade arthritis and lower back pain, and occasional neck pain with muscle spasms by her primary vet with conventional meds and routine lab work monitoring.
Exam findings: Pale tongue, weaker Left pulse, Deep and thin pulses (somewhat wiry), mild hind end weakness, dry skin, slightly cooler extremities, pain on left hip palpation, tension along liver acupuncture points, limp tail.
TCVM Diagnoses:
Kidney Qi Deficiency
Liver Blood Deficiency, Generalized Blood Deficiency
Liver Qi Stagnation
Phlegm
Our plan:
Nutritional Guidance incorporating nourishing whole foods based on above pattern diagnosis
Specific supplements were added to fill any nutritional gaps and further support our girl
Herbal therapy to nourish Qi and Blood
Acupuncture to soothe Liver Qi, Support Qi and Blood, and move Qi and Blood resolve Stagnation treating pain
At home exercises to promote strength in the hind end
Updates after just 3 visits
From Kallie's mom: " She is more focused and engaged. She seems much more comfortable and is more cuddly." No pacing episodes have been noted.
From Neighbor: "We love the new Kallie"
These cases are incredibly fulfilling to me because I know I'm promoting wellness and balance, not fighting illness. I love this collaborative team approach.
