Heart related diseases account for the second most common cause of death in dogs. Heart diseases are less common in cats, but can have fatal consequences.
Has your pet been diagnosed with a heart murmur?

Read on for some ways I support cardiac patients holistically:
Nutrition: The heart is a muscle and we can keep it strong by feeding it well. I focus on Omega 3s and antioxidants (ideally from real, whole foods), avoiding salty snacks, and encourage my clients to feed freeze dried/raw hearts for additional support. Pomegranate and garlic are also heart supportive.
Weight management: Excess body fat puts extra stress on the cardiovascular system, exacerbating heart disease. Maintaining your pet at his/her ideal weight- though proper nutrition and exercise can help protect the heart.
Herbal medicines: Plant medicines have been used throughout history to heal the body. I use herbal formulas (with or without the use of conventional medicines) to enhance heart function leading to increased quality and quantity of life. I'm trained to prescribe these medicines in a clinical setting and have specific formulas I recommend to ensure quality and safety.
Supplements: Many options exist including Coenzyme q10, Carnitine, D-Ribose, and Taurine (naturally found in Fish/eggs/meats).
Acupuncture: I use acupuncture to tune up the body, allowing all systems to function at their best.
Teamwork: I team up with allopathic veterinarians for diagnostics to gain more information on the pets' health status. I encourage caregivers to maintain a relationship with their primary vet to ensure we are covering all of our bases. We may even discuss visiting a veterinary cardiologist.
If your pet has been diagnosed with a heart condition, please reach out to me for a consultation. There is SO MUCH more we can do than place your pet on pharmaceuticals.
